About Us

The PET Imaging Center was opened in 1995 by the Biomedical Research Foundation of Northwest Louisiana as one of the first full-service centers in the southern United States. Since inception, the Center has performed over 35,000 clinical PET or PET/CT imaging procedures in areas including (but not limited to) oncology, neurology, and cardiology. Over 9,000 scans have been provided free of charge to uninsured patients mostly from LSU Health Sciences Center at Shreveport. Southern Isotopes, also owned and operated by the Biomedical Research Foundation, is a radiopharmaceutical production and manufacturing laboratory making radioisotopes used in nuclear medicine procedures (including PET and PET/CT). The Center has 10 employees in Shreveport, Louisiana, while Southern Isotopes has 13 employees in Shreveport and Baton Rouge.
